A helicopter trip to the Avachinsky volcano

The group is taken to the pass between the Avachinskiy volcano and the Uglovaya hill at the height of 2240 m. (the flight takes about 15-20 min). From this point the group makes a walking tour to the crater of the volcano (1 hour). Then come the return trip to the helicopter and the flight to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The Avachinsky Volcano is an active, complexly created and a beautiful volcano of the Somma- Vesuvius type, with a perfectly regular cone 2751 m in height above the sea-level, On the top of the volcano there used to be a crater 350 m in diameter and 220 m in depth, but in 1991 in the process of an eruption the crater funnel was filled with lava, in different parts of which there are now active fumaroles, depositing sulphur. From the top of the volcano there is an excellent view. On the north there is the Nalychevskya valley and the volcanoes of the Zhupanovskaya group; on the east there is the Kozelsky volcano and the vast areas of the Pacific Ocean can be seen; on the west there is the massive cone of the Koryaksky volcano; on the south the city on the shore of the Avacha Bay, the Viluchinsky, Gorely and Mutnovsky volcanoes are visible.
